The Church Committee met for the first time this fraternal year to discuss and plan FY 2007 activities. Fallout of this meeting was the submittal of our committee budget for the upcoming year. The committee is comprised of Juan Benjamin and Pete Rodriguez. We have submitted budget activities to include Church beautification, supporting the Church bulletin, purchasing rosaries for the 3rd grade CCD students, a clergy appreciation function and clergy relations. Our goal is to focus on activities that reinforce our spiritual and fraternal value as Catholic Christian gentleman. Areas that we plan to promote include corporate KC communion breakfasts, attendance at the monthly recitation of the rosary for life and Mass prior to the monthly business meeting and Diocesan events that show support for our Catholic heritage. We’re open to suggestions from the Council on how we might meet goal.

Eucharistic Adoration and Exposition

Don't forget Eucharistic Adoration and Exposition on the first Friday of the month from 3:00-11:00 pm.  The Council is working toward having at least one Knight available during each hour of Adoration.  If you are available and would like to sign up, please contact Miguel.

Rosary for Life

On the fourth Thursday of the month at 6:30pm, the Parish is invited to gather in the church and pray a Rosary for Life. As Catholics, we are called to pray unceasingly. As Knights, a large part of our prayer manifests itself in the Rosary.

EWTN Celebration

Jim Kaelin and his wife Phyllis are part of a group of St. John parishioners that are traveling on Saturday, August 12th to Birmingham to celebrate the Grand Finale of EWTN's 15th celebration.

This event will be held at the BJCC; admission is FREE, and even though people will be coming from all over the country, there should be ample seating available in this huge arena.

A caravan will be leaving from St. John's parking lot at 6:30am so that they can be at be BJCC at 8am when the doors open. You are welcome to join the caravan, or you can meet the group at the BJCC. The group is trying to seat all of the Madison people together - look for the St. John's K of C blue banner in the lobby!

For information on parking and BJCC location visit www.ewtn.com and click on the link for the EWTN celebration!

Shining Armor Award

You might be eligible for the Shining Armor Award.

The Awarded is for service to the Order with distinction during the first year of membership or later. The "Shining Armor Award" is given to those men that exemplify what a true Knight of Columbus is. The concept of the "Shining Armor Award" program is to get members active in the many facets of the Knights of Columbus as early as possible and assist in maintaining that activity and also honor them as a valued member of our council.

To qualify for the "Shining Armor Award":

New Knights must during their first year of membership:
* Be involved in at least 3 council service programs.
* Attend at least 3 council business meetings.
* Receive their Second and Third degrees.
* Meet with their council's insurance representative.
* Recruit at least one new member.

Knights who have been a Knight for more than one year:
* Work on 3 council service activities (assuming a leadership role in at least one)
* Attend at least 3 council business meetings.
* Meet with Council Insurance Representative
* Advance at least one degree if not already a 3rd degree member.
* Recruit 1 new member or escort a member to advance a degree

Should you have further Question, please feel free to contact Dan Mellen.

Newsletter Notes

Being as the newsletter and some council information is sent out electronically, we are always trying to make sure that our Council’s email distribution list is up to date.  If you know of a Brother that isn’t receiving either the newsletter or emails from the council, ask them to contact Mel Ontiveros or send a message to WebMaster.

Family by Tom Hart

The Family Activities Committee has four activities proposed during the next year. The objective is to hold one event every quarter. The plan activities are:

St. John's Family Night at the Movies (Oct 06 - Dec 06)
St. John's Skate Night (Jan 07 - Mar 07)
Easter Egg Hunt (Apr 07 - Jun 07)
St. John's Baseball Night (Jul 07 - Sep 07)

I'll need help organizing and planning these events. If you would like to work one or more of these events, please contact me via email or phone. I will need to know your name, phone number, e-mail address, and the name of the event that you want to participate in this year. I am also soliciting other ideas for family events just in case one of these events is not approved or is cancelled. Please consider helping this year on any of the Family Committee Events.
